The Château de la Calonnière spans 40 hectares between Martigné-Briand and Bonnezeaux, on a terroir of schist and sandstone crossed by the Layon river. Its 23 hectares of organically certified vines organic farming share the land with apple and pear orchards, beehives, and a vegetable garden in the making
Catherine Teurquetil de Clermont-Tonnerre took over the family estate in 2021, with the ambition of producing unique wines while restoring the estate's original purpose: that of a living farm, where the vines share their place with fruit trees, bees, and carefully tended soils.
Wine is made in the vineyard first. At Château de la Calonnière, we take great care with every task, from pruning in January to harvest in September.
Alongside Chenin blanc, we grow the other emblematic grape varieties of Anjou: Cabernet Franc, the Grolleau Gris, the Grolleau Noir but also the Chardonnay and the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Hand-harvesting is accompanied by careful sorting, both in the vineyard and in the winery. In the cellar, intervention is kept to a minimum to preserve the purity of the fruit and highlight the true expression of our terroirs. Winemaking is carried out with precision, thanks to our temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and climate-controlled cellar.
A l’heure où le lien entre le vin et le monde s’étiole, au Château de la Calonnière, nous faisons le choix de le recréer : ouvrir le domaine, accueillir les voisins, les locaux, les cyclistes de passage. We want the vineyard to be a place of sharing, where one connects not only with the fruit of the vine, but with the rivers, the landscapes, and the whole terroir.
Discover the vineyards of Anjou Noir in a whole new way. Go hiking between the plots, cycle through the vines, hop aboard one of our Volkswagen camper vans, or take time for a countryside meal at the heart of the estate. Château de la Calonnière opens the gates to its garden, offering experiences that go far beyond simple tasting.
